Flag of Freedom

How often do you look at our flag and realize the freedoms we have living in the U.S.?  With the Fourth of July coming up, I decided to use one of our country's symbols as inspiration for three challenges:  Stampin' Up! Only Challenge #73 - patriotic projects, ABC Challenge #34 and Stampin' Royalty Challenge #182 - stripes.

Pacific Point card stock was used as the base.  I embossed the two long edges using the Big Shot and one of the Needlepoint Border embossing folders.  The zig-zag on the top and bottom was done using the Simply Scored Borders Plate.  When you're using this you have to remember to score it on the back side so you get a raised design on the front (unless you want the debossed look).  The sentiment from the Words of Courage stamp set was heat embossed using VersaMark and White embossing powder.  A piece of Whisper White card stock was embossed using the Stripes embossing folder.  I added the red to the raised stripes by using a brayer, Real Red ink and a gentle touch.  The "stars" were put on a piece of Pacific Point card stock using a gel pen.  I dragged each edge across the Whisper White Craft Ink pad and then added it to the flag with Dimensionals.  I thought of adding little pearls for the stars but I will probably include this as a hero card in my cards I send to Operation Write Home.  If you have a surplus of cards that you aren't planning to send to anyone, consider donating them to Operation Write Home.  They send boxes of hand made/hand stamped blank cards to military personnel who in turn use them to send home to loved ones.  Check out their website here for guidelines for donating cards.  Thanks for stopping by.
